DURISOL RETAINING WALL SYSTEMS

Durisol offers two types of earth retaining walls. Structurally they are uniquely different. Externally and architecturally they appear very similar. In fact, both are post and panel systems that incorporate standard Durisol panels with some structural modifications to accommodate the substantial lateral earth loads. Both systems are constructed very similarly to a standard noise wall. Posts are set in augered footings and the panels are installed to the desired height, like a standard noise wall, followed by the placement of the back fill. The two systems are compatible, interchangeable and combinable. A noise wall can be added to the top using extended posts of the retaining wall. All components of the noise wall: traffic barriers, posts facings, piers and copings, can be incorporated in all retaining walls. The retaining wall panels are supplied with the Durisol sound absorptive surface having acoustic properties, texture and colour options, and durability properties like the Durisol noise wall system. All walls meet the design requirements of State and Provincial Highway Bridge Design Codes and are engineered for a minimum of 75 years service life.

Cantilever Retaining Wall System (RSS)
The Durisol Cantilered Retaining Wall System is designed very much like a standard cantilevered retaining wall. However, all overturning and horizontal shear loads are resisted by the embedded, drilled, caisson footings supporting the posts. The panels are designed to span horizontally from post to post. This sytem is generally economical up to 4m (12 feet) heights and has the advantage of easy and rapid constructability. The wall can be placed within 0.5m (2 feet) of a property line and requires minimal sub-surface excavation at the toe of the wall.

Anchored Retaining Wall System (DAWRS)
The Durisol Anchored Retaining Wall System is initially constructed as a freestanding post and panel wall sytem. Embedded galvanized steel clips in the back faces of the panels are connected to galvanized, steel T-achors in the backfill soil block using thin, galvanized, steel connecting straps. The T-anchors and connecting straps are inserted as the backfill is placed and compacted. The panels and soil block act together as a gravity retaining wall, much like a mechanicall stabilized earth retaining wall (MSE). The DARWS sytem is economical from 3m (10 feet) in height. Walls up to 10m (33 feet) have been constructed. The DARWS system has also been used for many false bridge abutments.

Integrated Noise Barrier and Retaining Wall Systems
Both the Durisol RSS and DARWS retaining wall systems can be integrated with the Durisol Noise Barrier Wall System to provide a single structure that incorporates soil retention and sound attenuation properties. This “integrated” system provides an economical solution by eliminating expensive connection details between noise walls mounted to tops of retaining walls.
