Project Overview
Cambridge, ON
As part of ongoing efforts to improve livability and respond to community feedback, the Region of Waterloo constructed a 1.5-kilometre noise wall along the north side of McQueen Shaver Boulevard—from Water Street South to Cheesecake Factory Road in Cambridge, Ontario.
This project followed the Region’s decision in late 2023 to designate McQueen Shaver as a truck bypass route, redirecting heavy traffic away from the Galt core and Concession Street. As truck traffic increased along the corridor, nearby residents began raising concerns about escalating noise levels.
Although initial noise studies suggested that a barrier wasn’t necessary, community feedback told a different story. After two years of continuous advocacy from local homeowners, the Region re-evaluated the data and confirmed that noise mitigation measures were warranted. The result: a robust sound barrier that reduces the noise levels, and an example of the importance of community-driven infrastructure planning.
Durisol was the supply-only partner on this project, providing the absorptive noise wall panels and structural posts. Our modular wall system was selected for its proven sound-reducing performance and visual appeal. Installation was carried out by Groundbreaking Foundations Inc., who completed the work with precision and professionalism.
This marks the second installation of a Durisol noise wall along the McQueen Shaver corridor. In 2023, a similar wall was constructed along the Franklin Boulevard approach to the McQueen Shaver roundabout, also in response to resident feedback and a revised noise study.
